Citizen Science volunteering (wildlife) (2026)
We work with communities to care for miles of National Cycle Network paths, which provide a home for all sorts of wildlife. With your help, we want to build our knowledge of what species are using the routes, so we can better care for them.
Join our project and get involved in:
- Learning how to spot and identify common wildlife
- Monitoring and recording wildlife using iRecord
- Participating in national wildlife recording campaigns and activities
- Telling your contacts the things you learn, and introducing them to the nature of the NCN
You don't need any previous knowledge or experience in identifying and recording wildlife. We'll provide all the guidance you need. There may also be additional learning opportunities with expert ecologists and partner organisations along the way.
Does this sound like you?
You…
- enjoy being active outdoors.
- are interested in green, wild spaces and wildlife.
- can carry out tasks independently.
- can easily access the National Cycle Network within your means
- share our values and mission to get more people cycling, walking and wheeling in your community.
Let us know if you're interested in learning more about the wildlife in your area.
Time commitment
This is a flexible role where every wildlife record counts and contributes to the health and biodiversity of the National Cycle Network for nature. We'll ask you to make a personal pledge for the number of records you'd like to collect.
